Our group is named Bay Minette. In the group project, my group members and myself have decided to do an iBook using iBook Author. In this project we share with everyone, all of our adventurous activities throughout the course of EDM 310. We have all shared a blog post that we as a group deemed appropriate. We also share personal pictures of our families, as well as places we have been and group organizations that we participate in. In EDM 310 we were independent learners that used technology as the main tool to display our work. Although our iBook is not perfect, It does however show that we are open to exploring and learning new things. We enjoyed making this piece of work. We wish that we could share the final outcome on our blogs, just take our word. IT'S PRETTY NEAT! Ross Wickers
I visited Mr.Wickers Physical Education blog. He talks about how he is always searching for new innovating strategies. He is in the process of developing a newsletter on all the information that he comes across via twitter, as well as the information that he gets from his colleagues. His first issue of the newsletter focuses on the 10 great lesson series. I commented that I enjoyed the article, as well as wished him luck on his newsletter.

My final visit to this blog post was on March 21, 2014. Mr. Ross did not have a new post. He is an physical education teacher, so Im guessing he has been busy finding more new and innovating things that can help children in the school systems. I have noticed that Mr. Ross is very successful with his newsletters. I had the pleasure of reading his first issue. It's really nice. On April 7, 2014 I looked at a student in Mrs. Jacobsen's class named Zack. He is a 5 year,8 year old from Pt. England. Zack gave information about flax snails. I commented that I would love to learn more about these snails, because they seemed cool.

On April 20, 2014 I viewed a student in Mrs.She's class named Efa-Lata she goes to Pt.England School in Auckland New Zealand. Efa-Lata told how she and her mother visited the zoo over the weekend. She stated that she saw lots of animals, and ate Burger King. I asked Efa-Lata what were her favorite animals at the zoo? I also told her what my favorite animals were, and told her that she did a great job on her podcast.Roshawnda Thompson's EDM310 class bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01392424717459787137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1095406136435195187.post-85102044925167481992014-04-20T23:26:00.005-05:002014-04-20T23:26:35.678-05:00Blog Post #13 What did Dr. Strange leave out?
This is what I thinks should be included.
Watch the video Whole Brain Teaching Look at the different ways that chris teaches his middle school class the basics. Chris Biffle gives the classroom a chance on how to use their whole brain in his classroom. This technique is very interesting to me. This can be used to help teach classroom rules as well as math concepts. This technique is a bit noisy, but I'm sure once the other instructors see the progress that my students are making in my classroom, they too will adapt the technique. As I watched other videos on YouTube. One teacher taught her children a math rule. PLEASE EXCUSE MY DEAR AUNT SALLY. The first letter of each word helps the students remember the math rules of P- Parentheses E-exponent M-multiply D-divide A-add S-subtract. This is cool because once that algebra question asks what operation should you do first? The students will remember this and perform the problem correctly.
I can remember one that has always stuck with me. To remember the directions on the compass my teacher would say N-never E-eat S-shredded W-wheat. I knew North was always on top, and I would remember that "trick" she taught me, and passed my compass test. I will definitely try and use this in my classroom. It seems as though the children were having fun while learning.
*claps hands* TEACH!Roshawnda Thompson's EDM310 class bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01392424717459787137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1095406136435195187.post-34345587519200534822014-04-08T15:21:00.003-05:002014-04-08T15:21:43.231-05:00Project #12 Smart board part BRoshawnda Thompson's EDM310 class bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01392424717459787137noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1095406136435195187.post-67773056265223231702014-04-08T15:18:00.002-05:002014-04-08T15:18:26.426-05:00Blog Post #12

What is Assistive Technology?

Assistive Technology is any item, piece of equipment, software, or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. Different disabilities require different assistive technologies.
Assistive technology includes products,and services, to help people who have difficulty speaking, typing, writing, remembering, pointing, seeing, hearing, learning, walking, etc.
There are some resources that I found that can be useful to me in assistive technology. The National Center for learning Disabilities gives 13 free resources that parents as well as educators can use. There is information on what can be done for students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties. These tools can help students get a better understanding on the information that they are trying to process.
Watching the video Understanding Assistive Technology gives you the simple information on how (AT) is used. I know as a future educator, I will have students that may have disabilities that require me to adjust my teaching techniques to help them better understand the material that I will be presenting. It is my job to communicate with the school staff as well as parents to ensure that this is done properly. There are lots of (AT) devices that can help with this process, it just takes one small step to make a HUGE difference.Roshawnda Thompson's EDM310 class bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01392424717459787137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1095406136435195187.post-22185214031866993362014-04-06T23:55:00.001-05:002014-04-06T23:55:36.956-05:00C4K ( March)

This technique uses coding and the students a have the ability to "remix" their work using this software.I think this is a very neat thing to do. The students all have done great creative work with the software. This is something that I could possibly use in my future classroom.

Sir Ken Robinson talks about the things that we take for granted. I do believe that we donot really know what we take for granted. Yes, we can think of all the things that we do take for granted, but what about the things that are not so obvious. Sir Ken states that education needs a revolution. Education needs to get away from the standard way of teaching, because not everyone learns the same. Learning for you may be easy, but that same exact process could be very hard for the next person. This is evident in day to day school settings. I do realize that changing and revolutionizing education will not be an easy task, but I am willing to accept the challenge and accept the things that we so often take for granted and don't even realize.I really enjoyed Sir Kens video. I look forward to viewing many more.Roshawnda Thompson's EDM310 class bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01392424717459787137noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1095406136435195187.post-54859406408182640552014-03-30T16:10:00.001-05:002014-03-30T16:10:25.225-05:00Smartboard Presentation Part ARoshawnda Thompson's EDM310 class bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01392424717459787137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1095406136435195187.post-17829212646400448372014-03-30T15:37:00.000-05:002014-03-30T15:38:09.168-05:00Project 15 PBL#3

CEREAL BOX BIOGRAPHY
GRADES 2-4
DURATION 1-2 WEEKS

This project is a social studies project for introducing students to the concepts of biographies in a relative way. Watching Mrs. Cassidy's video I have a new insight on the media world. I have always been the person that questioned the fact that blogging in the classroom is useless. Mrs. Cassidy states that we have to change because the world is changing, that handicapping yourself, and your students is what we will be doing if we do not take the time to take advantage of all the collaborating tools that are available via the internet and social media. The basic paper and pencil method is okay, but think of the possibilities that a student can accomplish just by this simple fact. This would help a child write more and be more expressive in their writing.
Another thing that was a bit interesting to me was the fact that Mrs. Cassidy does not necessarily use social media in her personal life, but in her classroom.I now know that blogging and social media can and will be the thing that takes my teaching technique to a completely different level.Roshawnda Thompson's EDM310 class bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01392424717459787137noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1095406136435195187.post-38478522247904180232014-03-16T14:23:00.000-05:002014-03-16T14:23:54.024-05:00Project #9Roshawnda Thompson's EDM310 class bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01392424717459787137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1095406136435195187.post-91156818027812352522014-03-14T11:59:00.004-05:002014-03-14T12:01:26.101-05:00Project #14 plan#2

RUBRIC

TEACHERS GUIDERoshawnda Thompson's EDM310 class bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01392424717459787137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1095406136435195187.post-37424668796664881332014-03-14T11:09:00.002-05:002014-03-14T11:09:40.547-05:00C4T#2
<img alt=" picture of jeff utecht" "title= "www.udemy.com" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTHl67Pk0AEgjHyqnwyaE_K5nV22ToTHOuw27oLS8HSXrfIwdGkS5FXhBVJ1ENxvO9n4CE05iv-FQ5D-rtaPCMkird93pBE4AOSXNrhah2IBJmuxJDNZWEJjLQd6rp62uN9W6opLOdhu3b/s200/photo1.jpg" />

The Thinking stick.
For this assignment I had the pleasure to visit Jeff Utecht's blog posts. I took an interest in his blog about 2014 Predictions of technology. Jeff talks all the predictions that he has had with the technology field.How he predicted a new technology would evolve in some sort and how it has come to past. His 2014 prediction is wearable technology, where we woould be able to look through a glass connected to eyeglasses. Mr. Jeff hopes that the first disruptive will be in physical education. Using something like Fitbit that the students could possible wear and monitor if they are getting adequate amounts of exercise. I commented that I wasn't so sure how felt about wearable technology, but the idea of fit-bit could be a major asset to students around the world.

The last post that Mr. Jeff talks about is his frustration with the fact that it is the year 2014, 14years in the century and the internet is 25 years old. He states that we need to embrace the fact that the internet need to improve. He compares how some places like starbucks allows places that students can access things that the public libraries should cut their non fiction book budget to fund research places. He also gave great points as to how teachers should have acces to a laptop in the classroom. He gave points on how the access to youtube and facebook should be allowed in the classroom. There are lots of great things on these sites, they just have to be filtered. He also states that if the schools cannot provide some type of educational media like a ipad that the students should be allowed to bring their own. I know some people would not agree, but children as early as the third grade have cell phones and can get any information that they want at any time. His points are very interesting and if you ask me, very great points. The world of media is only becoming greater. My theory is that we can't beat technology, might as well embarce and improve it. I commented that I hope that his points gets into the minds of those who make the decisions on how a classroom should operate.Roshawnda Thompson's EDM310 class bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01392424717459787137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1095406136435195187.post-23555614470786457572014-03-14T10:36:00.001-05:002014-03-14T10:36:20.674-05:00Blog 8
<img "alt="an upside down classroom" title="https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&docid=Xen1oKWQdad5fM&tbnid=l-U8W9A57z-VuM:&ved=0CAUQjB0&url=http%3A%2F%2Fesheninger.blogspot.com%2F2011%2F11%2Fflipped-classroom-explained.html&ei=wSAjU5KNGeqs2gXW1oHQCA&bvm=bv.62922401,d.b2I&psig=AFQjCNE-piU8SQPlR2gr0sGbHTRU7yCygw&ust=1394897459590604" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp2vDttGVx1WuE7bJo3VcfKHCJKqdDZDKJgM_o_3nqJZlm7Ifrh-OiOzydfWYnoFAFIlgJnTnBQSe7bLjYeiCNs2XZR7X8KYJz1Bj7C538uYRe3SluvykqJMt5IxkquZ6ycW9IOXsOPZQR/s320/flip1.jpg" />

A 21st century learning and communicating tool that I really like and would incorporate in my classroom is Flipping the classroom. This technique is very interesting in that fact that the teacher can have pre recorded material sent to the children before the lesson is even taught. The students can then practice the material at home and gain more knowledge about things, gather any questions that they might have, and present them to the taecher the next school day. This way the teacher can address the children that are having issues in certain subject areas, and be able to give them more one on one attention.
I agree with this technique because, some children need further instruction or support from their teacher when they complete their homework assignments. I remember days where I would need assistance and the teacher would say that they were not going to hold up the class to try and teach something all over again. Flipping the classroom will allow the teacher to see excatly if the concept that they are trying to help the children master is successful or not. This evaluation can then allow the taeacher to try and adjust her teaching method to help those students who are struggling without intreupting class time for those who have grasped the concept.

One more thing that future educators should know. Flipping the classroom is not an easy task. Sometimes we as future eductors try and find an easy thing to try jsut because it is new. Please view 5 things I wish I knew about Flipping the classroom This video gives an honest opinion of a teacher who states that flipping does require lots of planning and dedication. The children have to be engaged in the material in order for flipping to work. To all my future and curent eduactors who plam on or are flipping their classrooms GOOD LUCK on your flipping journey.Roshawnda Thompson's EDM310 class bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01392424717459787137noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1095406136435195187.post-91429163257426032482014-03-14T09:59:00.002-05:002014-03-14T09:59:18.687-05:00Project 13 PBL #1

Our group decided to do a lesson plan on art, that includes dance. It is called Dance Out Loud. The idea of the project is to introduce the elements of choreography and choreographic form. They will understand the difference between dance as art, and dance as a sport. The students will present their projects in any form of media format.The objective is to identify, define, and practice elements of choreorgraphy. To show evidence of success in achieving identified learning target. The teacher will use available texts and other technology resources. Students will create a choreography dictionary in their choice of media format. Students will also demonstarte inderstanding of terminology through Media Presentation of the dictionary.

One particular thing that stood out to me was that the way you say things can get a good or bad reaction. If someone is rude you feel attacked, but someone else can say the exact same thing, and you can see where they are coming from. I know this to be true because, I was told NO! before by one person, went to another person had the same conversation, and they explained to me why I needed to improve the task at hand. Randy Pausch gave a few tips that one can follow they include:
Remember to have fun
never lose childhood wonder
help others
and remember that loyalty is a two way street.
These are just a few things that I will take with me through life.

To answer the question...I think that we can learn that teaching is not about what we know, but how we can help students. By being loyal to them and allowing them to explore different things in the classroom. This can help children blossom and believe that they can achieve anything that they put their minds to.I love Mr.Pausch's statement that if you lead life the right way and good things will come to you.
<img alt="picture of randy pausch last lecture book" Title="kammysbooks.blogspot.com border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7ITeQGGukk0bHMJ0Y5aQVGXrL8pojEmla8ZWgi-JEHJLaIYOUzSeVhFK6wLe4tqHIBAm6FduSoMuZh008hxrVZCLoNtgaMaiA1gy1aN9Lyx7PAZMADf0t7ydRTagWQGPq56-ayULISW4d/s320/Last+Lecture.jpg" />
Roshawnda Thompson's EDM310 class bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01392424717459787137noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1095406136435195187.post-82632339727147455342014-03-01T23:43:00.000-06:002014-03-01T23:43:20.898-06:00C4K Summary (FEB)

On Feburary 8, 2014 I was assigned to comment on the blog of Haylee J. This student gave steps to solve a fraction with unlike denominators.She gave directions to cross multiply and find a common denominator, then add the numerators and the final step was to simplify your problem by didvsion. My comment was that I enjoyed the post and told her Great Job!

My next student was Lily. Lily talked about having two big brothers, two pets which included a bird, and a hampster named chumchum. I commented that she did a great job on her post, and that I would love to play with her pet hampster.

I also took a visit to Mrs. Millers's class and read Haley's blog on This I believe. On this blog post the student talked about karma and how she believed that what ever you believe in it seems to manifest in life. This was a high school student, and I did suggest that she remember to always capitalize the pronoun I.

My final C4K class was Tessa C. blog about a story called Sarah's Key. Tessa did a power-point on the book, and gave graphics and great animations.I commented that the story seemed interesting. This story reminds me of the story of Anne Frank. This too was a story about the holocaust.I told Tessa that she did an awesome job, and to keep up the good work.Roshawnda Thompson's EDM310 class bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01392424717459787137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1095406136435195187.post-72809501326185720722014-02-23T20:44:00.001-06:002014-02-23T20:44:19.354-06:00Project #8 Book Trailer
I WANNA NEW ROOM
Roshawnda Thompson's EDM310 class bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01392424717459787137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1095406136435195187.post-91731526589765736212014-02-23T20:44:00.000-06:002014-02-23T20:44:04.189-06:00Blog #6
<img "alt= "Principals PLN view" title="esheninger.blogspot.com" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP3PsaRASZPUwTIfib5mo3KdFu1LA1d66jvvK-AjQprz3bPEHtUK_BDTJ7hx0X8yoENQazbg9fuj_AprquIK8yktAlwxbJL2enKh7XUUGGUQt9ajYFgdpQkGZ8J9iY15li3CGwu8DjR37m/s320/PLN.jpg" />

A PLN is a professional learning network, where you can make connections, share ideas and resources. As I do further research, I see that I already have begun using PLN's even before I was an education major. I use facebook, and twitter all the time to share videos and pictures with people all the time. Those steps are the very firt ones in creating my PLN. I believe that I could use this tool in the classroom as an educator to share information about topics in different subject areas with my students as well as their parents. I now realize that I have an organized PLN with people that can and could help me in my teaching career. Assignments like C4T's and C4C's are places to start. Yes C4C's, because I feel that my peers are the ones that I could connect to the most. In addition to other resources like Twitter and even Pinterest are also places that I could start to build my Personal Learning Network. I know starting this process will allow me to meet, share, and involve myself with people, places,and ideas that will help be a great asset to children in the classroom.Roshawnda Thompson's EDM310 class bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01392424717459787137noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1095406136435195187.post-34031580708027953552014-02-16T17:29:00.002-06:002014-02-16T17:29:57.335-06:00Blog #5

In the video with Dr. Strange and Anthony Capps on Project Based Learning Anthony talks about how project based learning is working in his classroom. Mr. Capps talks about how this technique is best used in the community. If everyone is involved it can and will be successful.Children can relate to eveyday things that they deal with and will be more intrigued to learn new things.
One thing that I took out of the video is when Mr. Capps says to never limit your students to what you want them to do, they will most likely give you more than what you expect. Dr. Strange also noted that PBL takes a lot of planning and work in order for it to be successful. Another tool that Dr.Strange and Anthony Capps discussed was the use of Icurio This is a search engine that can be used that has been filtered so that no unappropriate material is being displayed to students. This is a great idea, because anyone can use google at any time and search for a particuliar item. The information could sometimes be too subjective for children. The directory feature that icurio has stops that from happening. I liked the phrase that Anthony used about DiscoveryEd was that if a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth a million. I agree with Mr. Capps in saying that children learn a whole lot more from watching videos. Children today are so involved with technology that they will be very attentive to videos. I love how Baldwin County schools are using all kinds of technology tools in the classroom. In Anthony's additional lesson thoughts he gave an overview of how a lesson plan should be brokendown. He states that every lesson is four layers thick. There is your yearly plan, then you have your unit (subject). The next part is your weekly plan, and finally what you will teach daily. These componets will ensure that you cover exactly they concepts that you want your students tp be able to master.
It seems to me that Mr.Capps is utilizing all componets of PBL to help his class be successful. I would like to give a great BIG applause for the Baldwin County School System, they seem to have all the tools needed to be successful in the classroom.Roshawnda Thompson's EDM310 class bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01392424717459787137noreply@blogger.com0
