This week I had the pleasure of looking into Becky Goerend's blog.

Mrs Goerend has a blog that focuses on the Common Core of the classroom and how it is not in a kid friendly text. The words are a bit much for fifth graders as well as parents. Children need to know exactly what is expected of them so that they can respond accordingly. The parents also need to know what is expected so that they can help prepare their child for the task at hand. Mrs Goerend came up with a way to help the children understand what the core expects the child to do by taking the words they knew the meaning of and writing it in their own words, then they were able to apply the concepts.
More teachers should look at what they expect of children and make sure it is in a language that can be understood.
